Ottawa Da'wa

In order to serve the specific and diverse needs of our fellow New Muslims, a new division of Islam care has blossomed, Ottawa Dawah.

What is Dawah?

Dawah is an Arabic word that literally means to summon or invite. Figuratively, Dawah is used to refer to speaking to others about Islam including God (Allah), Mohammed, and Muslims (ones who practice Islam). Dawah is ultimately an invitation to understanding; understanding Islam; understanding Muslims perception of God (Allah); and understanding why Islam is literally translated to mean submission.

Ottawa Dawah embraces a holistic approach to understanding and practicing Islam with an emphasis first and foremost on establishing a strong foundation in aqueedah (Islamic creed). We acknowledge the unique experience of those exploring, newly embracing, or returning to Islam. Ottawa Dawah seeks to provide a non-judgemental, supportive environment that encourages a gradual spiritual and intellectual growth tailored to the individual.

In support of these objectives, Ottawa Dawah offers the following services:

  • Welcome to Islam packages and welcome parties
  • Mentoring program to encourage integration into the community
  • Educational programming tailored to the needs of new Muslims
  • Social events including eid parties and iftar gatherings during Ramadan

Who we Serve?

  • Those interested in learning about Islam
  • New Muslims
  • Intermediate and experienced converts
  • Born Muslims looking to re-affirm their faith
